Guide to ebooks

eBook format
Our eBooks are available in EPUB format only. EPUB eBooks are digital versions of print books that you can purchase at this site. Download and read EPUB eBooks on your Windows or Mac computer using Adobe Digital Editions. These can also be transferred from Windows and Mac to many eBook reading devices.

Adobe Digital Editions
Adobe Digital Editions is a free eBook reader application used to read DRM-protected eBooks. Adobe Digital Editions must be installed and activated in order to use the DRM-protected eBooks available at this site.

To download Adobe Digital Editions, click here.

N.B: you will need to also create an Adobe ID to link your Adobe Digital Editions to your Mills & Boon account therefore please ensure you use the same email address at all times.

Activating Adobe Digital Editions
Activation allows you to read DRM-protected eBooks, as well as downloading them on multiple computers and transferring them to supported portable devices. However, this is a matter of personal preference. Before deciding, please consider the following:

If you use anonymous activation, note these limitations

  • You will only be able to read a downloaded eBook on a single computer
  • These eBooks will no longer be available if you choose to activate Adobe Digital Editions later with an Adobe ID which has already been used on another computer

If you use an Adobe ID

  • You will be able to download an eBook on up to 6 computers/devices that have been activated with the same Adobe ID
  • You will be able to transfer eBooks to supported eBook devices activated with the same Adobe ID

To activate Adobe Digital Editions

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions
  2. Select Library then Authorise Computer (‘Authorise Computer’ dialog box is displayed)
  3. Enter the email address and password for your Adobe ID then click Activate
  4. Click Finish to close the Setup Assistant dialog box

N.B: If you have downloaded other DRM-protected eBooks with a different Adobe ID then due to DRM-restrictions these books will be incompatible with a new Adobe ID.

E-book reader apps

You can also use Blue Fire reader to read EPUB format e-books on your Apple or Android device. For Bluefire Reader app, click here. For a complete listing of compatible devices for EPUB eBooks, click here.

READING eBOOKS ON YOUR COMPUTER

Step 1.  Download Adobe Digital Editions

Step 2. Create an Adobe ID  (when creating your Adobe ID, please use the same email address as registered on your Mills & Boon account). Not a member? Join now

Step 3. Important!  Authorise Adobe Digital Editions.

As our eBooks are protected by digital rights management (DRM) we recommend you authorise Adobe Digital Editions with your Adobe ID so that any eBooks you purchase are not “locked” to one computer. Your eBooks will be assigned to your Adobe ID, which can then be transferred to compatible devices.

When launching Adobe Digital Editions for the first time, you will be prompted to authorise. If this does not happen, follow these steps.

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions
  2. Select Library then Authorise Computer (‘Authorise Computer’ dialog box is displayed)
  3. Enter the email address and password for your Adobe ID then click Activate
  4. Click Finish to close the Setup Assistant dialog box

This indicates that you have downloaded, or attempted to download, the eBooks on another computer or device that has a different authorisation to this device.

  1. Check the Adobe ID authorisation status of current device.
  2. If it unauthorised, authorise with Adobe ID on previous device
  3. If authorised, check the Adobe ID of previous device.
  4. If previous device is not authorised, all eBooks have been “locked” to anonymous ID, allowing them only to be read on that device.

Adobe Reader cannot open urllink.acsm files

This indicates the eBooks are trying to opening with Adobe Reader not Adobe Digital Editions.

  1.      For a temporary solution, Windows users can right click and select Open With > Adobe Digital Editions.
  2.      For a permanent solution, if you are using either Windows or Mac you can change the file type associations. Please contact Customer service for more instructions.

The file downloaded is a .acsm file, not an epub.

If an ascm file downloads, please right click the file. From the list of commands that appear, select open with… and choose your preferred epub reading software, such as adobe digital editions.

For a permanent solution, if you are using either Windows or Mac you can change the file type associations. Please contact Customer service for more instructions.

The XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it.

This problem is usually isolated to Samsung or Android devices. It is a communication problem between the browser and the eBook links. Please download your e-books directly from your account on the Mills & Boon website.

If this does not resolve the issue, you will need to download another browser to your Samsung or Android device. We recommend Google Chrome.

  1.      On the Google Play store, search for Chrome and download Google Chrome
  2.      Using the Chrome app, login to the Mills & Boon website
  3.      Click My Account
  4.      Click My Order History

Adobe Digital Editions FAQ

Q: Can I authorise more than one device with my Adobe ID?

A: An Adobe ID can be used on up to 6 computers or devices.  Please contact Adobe if you need to reset your authorisations.

Q: Do I need to use the same e-mail address registered to my Adobe ID for the Mills & Boon website?

A: No, you can use different e-mail addresses. However, very rarely, some customers who are using mobile devices have experienced issues with downloading to eReading apps (such as blue fire or aldiko) if the app was authorised with a different e-mail address.
